a good look for fall...

last week i overheard someone say "new york fashion week is over!" and understood something totally different than what the person was exclaiming. i thought to myself, "hmm, that would be nice..." (apologies to my friends in the industry), and then quickly realized that i wouldn't have anything to work against if it weren't for the world of fashion. there's an intermittent line that connects fashion to style and lately i'm wondering how long the fashion world will be enamored with men's work clothing from the early twentieth century, maybe another year or two?

here's my ex post facto contribution to this fall's panoply of "looks". i wish that this image was sharper so that you could more clearly see the bowler hat, polka dot shirt, tie (is that knot a half windsor?), vest, simple overalls, and work boots this worker is wearing. i like that his overalls have a button hole for a watch fob but no safety pocket for the watch, making me think that he had a job where he didn't have to bend over a lot, perhaps a machinist. another thing that makes me think that he may have been a machinist is that polka dot shirts like his were advertised heavily in trade journals of his time, such as the machinist monthly journal.

a good look for fall, don't you think?
